I am not sure if this is a windows problem or what! Girlfriend's mother has an HP computer running Win XP Pro (I think). Her HP office jet all in one printer works fine most of the time. However, in the last couple of months it will stop printing anything. The print jobs will just pile up in the print spool. I do know the scan functions work and it will still make copies but will not print. I have completely uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled with the latest drivers. That worked fine for a while. The last time I was in a hurry and just deleted the printers from the Printers and Fax menu then just unplugged and replugged the USB cable and let Windows reinstall the printer. Also worked for a while. But not it is not printing again. Any ideas?

I've recently been dealing with an HP PSC 1317, which had an internal hardware failure. Initially I was unsure if it was the PC or the printer. Look on the HP website ( ) to see if there's any info on how to carry out a test print directly on the printer itself, i.e. without it being connected to the PC. You may also find details on how to do a reset on it, which may restore it back to manufacturer's defaults.

Another possibility: Go to Control panel | Administrative Tools | Services (local). Scroll down to Print Spooler and make sure it is enabled & running. For some wacky reason this gets disabled sometimes.

Sorry for the long delay as I was out of town for work. Came back and tried genomon's idea and no dice. Same problem. Tried linney's link and so far so good. However, just a basic reinstall has worked for a short while in the past. I am looking a link that G0AOZ suggested as I would find that to be a likely candidate to something as sporadic as this. The only thing other than the above ideas I could think of was that it could be something to do with the other software on her computer. The one thing that came to mind is that this always happens when she is printing from QuickBooks. However, this could be a false positive as it is also about the only thing she ever prints from. So even if 9 out of 10 times this is where the problem occurs, 99 out of 100 time she prints anything it is from QuickBooks.
