We have an office with a fax machine that is having fits with faxing to certain numbers.

When we try to fax to a specific number ad we preface the number with a 9, it fails. It does not connect to the fax on the other end. However, we use *9 and the number and it works every time.

However, we have another fax number that it does the opposite.

when we dial 9 it goes through our Paetec PRI. When we dial *9 it goes through our Analog line with Verizon.

Any help would be great as no one has been able to figure this one out.

Here is what I see:
*9 Secondary Dial Tone
[*9]N; Dial
[9]N; Dial 3K1
[9]xxxxxxxxxx Dial 3K1
9 Secondary Dial Tone

Well looks like your shortcodes do two slightly different things where your fax wont dial using 3K1

The call is presented to local exchange as a "3K1 Speech Call". Useful in some where voice calls cost less than data calls.

hope that helps.

Hairlessupportmonkey,

I am not sure I follow. Out of the 5 short codes I provided, we use *9 and 9, they both are setup as Secondary Dial Tone feature. I am not sure how the other play into this but that is why I added them.

What should they be set to? Also, why if it is the short code does one fax number work opposite of the other fax number with the short codes as I describe in my original?

Dial 3K1

Sets the ISDN bearer capabilities to 3.1Khz audio call.

a high speed fax / modem will not modulate on 3.1Khz

Just delete one SC and use 9N / N; / Dial / LG ID (or ARS)

check with your provider and see if you are actually able to use 3k1 - since we dont use it in the UK, I have no way of testing this.
