Because of help offered here I've fixed a previous problem.
(many thanks!)

But a new one has arose/arisin/come-up within the database.

When adding a record I get an error message saying the record is set read-only. But I have looked at every property setting and can't see where that is set.

The link to see is it at

One thing is a stupid error I made you do - change the default value of the date field in table sub_dar to =now() (that way a full timestamp is saved, not just the date, providing the possibility to create more records in sub_dar)

Other thing. The combo in the main form must be bound to offid and the combo in the sub form must be bound to tocid.

How - design view - go to properties of the combos and in the data tab for control source, select the respective fields.

JUMPIN CATFISH! It works!

And honestly if your help was not available I would have thrown up my hands long ago. I would love to attend a class given by you. I am willing to bet they are well received.

Ok, like you stated to me last night it is time for me to go beddy-bye. [sleeping]

I am going to drink a glass of wine and will be back at it tomorrow morning around 7am here in the Pacific Northwest (Spokane, Washington).

I am going to call it good while I can and fine tune this baby tomorrow.

I'll post again here and let you know how it went.

Your a good person Roy-Vidar and I thank you much.

Till tomorrow.

Thanx, and yes beddy time here to (3:30 here - and 7:00 is not an option), just finishing some french liquid;-)

Yeah - I do lot's of classes in ms-office, and indeed customers ask to get that "crazy guy who..." again. Think I've got Access 101 in the beginning of desember, but how's your Norwegian...

Roy-Vidar

Well, my Norwegian is not so good. But your english is to be commended as is your instructional skills.

Again thanks, and should you reconsider I'd love to send you some coffee, beer or better yet some of our local wine.

You have my e-mail address.

Ok, here's an easy one. Is there a way to make one of the combo boxes drop down to a default when the form is opened?

And I'm off to bed, really I am.

I'm so used to write code snippets for anything, so I had to use a clear head on that one. Silly really, cause it's rather simple - but also a bit dirty.

Now - you've used AutoNumbers as PK in the referencing tables dar_officer and dar_toc. That's quite OK, cause noone sees them, xcept you, the developer. The dirty bit here, is to use the number from the selected officer and toc as default value in the combobox. For instance, if the second officer in your dar_officer table, should be the default choice, simply put 2 as default value for the officer combo. Likewise with dar_toc, if the third toc is to be default, put 23 as default value for the toc combo.

What's so dirty about it?
Well, if you sooner or later wan't to change default officer or toc, you'll have to do it manually with going to the design view and change the combos default value there.

BTW - thanx for the very kind words! And yes, forgot to mention it when ranting about motivations for doing this, trying to improve on the lingo skills, is definately also a great motivator!
