How do I set up ODBC without mapping the server using UNC to get data into MS Excel 2000 from MS Ac-cess 2000? I have tried on Win98 and WinXP and can’t find a way to do it.

In MS Query I can se the 'from' when viewing the query in SQL-mode and I can change drive-letter to UNC, but then I get an error that the table cannot be found.

I can map the server and set up the ODBC using the drive-letter and it works.

Hope to get some help,
Peter

I found a solution!

From my controlpannel in Win98 I made a File-DSN called “xx” using a mapped drive-letter the usual way. Then I found the file xx.dns on my harddisk in C:\….\ODBC\Data Sources. It’s a textfile and I just changed the drive-letter to “\\ip\share” and a new database. It looks like this: DBQ=\\ip\share\path\database.mdb

It works and is save with Excel, so others can update from the database without mapping.
