I have set-up one System-DSN with a generic data source name. I hoped to just override the database name to point to the database I would like to access at that point in time.
But I now discovered that when you link the table, the table properties store the database in the description: "ODBC;DSN=Calibre;HOST=170.30.153.27;UID=systpe;DATABASE=cortal;SERVICE=sqlnw;TABLE=span_ip.prod_def".

How do I set-up a link or ODBC where I can change the database in the ODBC setting and the link will then point to the new database, automatically?

Is the DSN database and Access mdb? If it is, why are you opening via DSN?

According to the MS access Help the System DSN or Machine data sources, has the following attributes:
"Machine data sources store connection information in the Windows Registry on a specific computer with a user-defined name. You can use machine data sources only on the computer they are defined on. There are two types of machine data sources — user and system. User data sources can be used only by the current user and are visible only to that user. System data sources can be used by all users on a computer and are visible to all users on the computer and system-wide services, such as Microsoft Windows NT services. A machine data source is especially useful when you want to provide added security, because only users who are logged on can view a machine data source and it cannot be copied by a remote user to another computer."

Based on the above - I do not understand your question!
