Does this exist out there anyone? I have found one solution for this on the 'net that I did not like because a) Its more expensive than quickbooks itself and b)its read only so I cannot do an update, append or delete query to a table like I normally would do with MS Access.

Please someone tell me this exists.

No only is the LinkBook driver very expensive, it has lots of bugs and their customer support (or what passes for it) is bad. I bought the product, pointed out failures, had arguments with all kinds of people about why it should work like they said it should and finally returned the product. At least, I got my money back!

Who owns quickbooks anyway? Is in Symantec? Software Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

Frustrated,

I too am frustrated, and its been several months since I have tried to find a solution for this so I did some surfing.

Intuit owns quickbooks, and I found an ODBC driver that is read/write. Its $188 - much cheaper than hillcroft. I will be testing it over the next week or so and posting my results. If you want to check it out for yourself, go here:

Have you used the product you referred to in this post? My company uses quickbooks for all bookkeeping currently. But it is a repair shop and we have an Access database which we also use to log in customer equipment and track service performed. We've been looking for a way to make the two work together so that we will not duplicate efforts. What are your feelings about the ODBC driver for $188?

I have played with this a bit for a few crystal reports but I have not written to a table with it. I have gotten pulled into another project (or six) and I have not had the chance to finish testing this. Software Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

"QBIIF Pro ActiveX is a control which allows importing lists and transactions from your database
to Intuit's accounting package QuickBooks 6 Pro and Standard version" but it is not an ODBC driver. ODBC driver, such as LinkBook, gives a possibility of sending SQL queries to QuickBooks which is very useful because it is a way to link QuickBooks with every software that has an ODBC driver (such as Access, Excel, Lotus etc.).

I have written an application in VB that communicates with QuickBooks Pro 2002 using the SDK from Intuit. Works ok but it is slow.

I only want to be able to link the data from Quickbooks in an Access database. I don't really care about being able to write to QB. Is their an appropriate, reliable, and not outrageously expensive product that will enable me to do that?

I am looking for a product that will allow me to link the QuickBooks data in it's tables to an Access database. I don't really care about writing to QB. Does anyone know of a reliable, and not outrageously expensive product to do this or where to get ODBC drivers for QB?

I installed the trial LinkBooks, which is fully functional but only shows the first 50. Works fine, but I want to see the payroll data in access... for example, how many hours were put to each payroll item. And it doesn't do that, it just shows me silly lists of all the memorized reports and such. Bah.

LinkBook might contain many 'silly lists', but it also includes the Transactions and Transaction Items tables as well as the Timesheets table. Rather than just saying 'bah', if the Timesheets table does not contain the information that you need, why not ask for what you want? You might be very surprised at the response!

LinkBook might be considered 'very expensive' by some people, but that is their choice - and they don't have to buy it. It is a very appropriate solution for others - and it is the ONLY ODBC driver for QuickBooks that is currently available. It is NOT full of bugs, and works well - and is fully supported. The only objection about LinkBook that is received is a dislike of the licensing policy which prevents a licence from being pirated - the honest user should be happy, but some are not?!?

Linkbook Should not be so cocky... qODBC is a much better solution, is a true ODBC compliant driver and works flawlessly. Linkbook is not the only player in the game, and should focus on customer satisfaction and customer service as those are the only true mesasures that will keep a company going. The URL for qODBC is below

I would like to say that LinkBook is not there yet, but their support is 5 star. I always get an answer to my emails to them (LinkBook) w.in a couple if hours.

Also, LinkBook supports USA, Canada and UK versions. All other solutions based on the QB API support only the USA version and are therefore limited to what the API can do.
For example, you cannot get Bill and Payroll checks.

I have been a user of LinkBooks for a number of years and cannot use QuickBooks without it. I have worked with other products that imported Quickbooks files. I have created IIF files for import to QuickBooks and tried to work with their IIf output files. The only way to go is with LinkBooks.

I have not found it to be full of bugs. I believe that all programs will always have an untested application that cannot be anticipated. There have been a few instances when I would see an error message, but when brought to their attention, they have provided me with a simple replacement DLL file, in many cases within the same day. Linkbooks has never hung or not performed. Again, if there was a message, it was always trapped and presented with an informative error message. And this is not a lot of error messages, perhaps 6 in 3 years, usually as a result of a QuickBooks upgrade.

This message is being added to the forum because of the excellent customer support that I received this past weekend. Even though we are separated by a big pond, I was still getting support on Friday night and Saturday EDT which translates to 5 huors later in England. They were unable to duplicate my problem with Access and QuickBooks Enterprise 2003 because of the extremely large number of QuickBooks records (over 14000 customer records exceeded Intuit's normal QuickBooks record limit) and other complexities in my large Access database. We worked hand in hand to transfer files, SQL statements, etc. When I was finally able to solve transmission problems at my end, and provided them with exact duplicates of my files, they duplicated the problem, identified the cause, and sent me a new DLL within 12 hours of my transmission. Again, this happened on a weekend, like all aother emergencies that start on Friday afternoons.

This support has been typical of their past support. Using LinkBooks with Access has allowed me to do all the things in Access that QuckBpoks cannot do. We have scores of exception reports identifying errors that QuickBooks allows to occur, like Jobs with Customers. About duplicate Job Nubmers assigned to different Customers. Although it may be read only at this time, it is no big deal to use an Access query to create an Access table that can be written to. A periodic refresh can keep the Access table very current with the QuickBooks file.

With Linkbooks, I use Symantec Q&A database program as the master database for Customers and Jobs. All records are added and maintained in Q&A. Periodically they are exported to and imported by Access which has the LinkBook ODBC connection to Quickbooks. Access is used to create IIF files that are imported by Quickbooks. The reverse process is used for Vendors. All vendor records are added and maintained in QuickBooks. Using Linkbooks ODBC connection a vendor file is exported to and imported by Q&A. All of these import/export routines are automated through Access with programs that were developed by me. These routines run at night unattended on a schedule or can be run on demand during the day if more timely information is needed. About twenty audit exception reports are run every night out Access using the Linkbooks ODBC connection.

I highly recommend LinkBooks if you want to use Access as an effective interface. At this point I have only used the read-only version, and am anxious for the release of the Read-Write version.
