After an install to a client, the ODBC is not ready to be used by other applications (such as Excel) and will give an error when trying. Go to the ODBC Administator from the control panel and configure the SQLBase entry, Advanced Tab, changing the Release Plan to "Release" instead of "Hold".

I'd like to add that if you are using a client/server application which depends on SQLBase, I've found installing the client off the CD will often give you the newest version of ODBC drivers. For example, our vendor supplies V3.10 of Intersolv driver. We run 7.5.1 which comes w/ 3.6 of Merant(formerly Intersolv)'s driver.

Hi,

First of all "Are u see a "centura..." / "sqlbase..." odbc drivers in the "Odbc data source administrator"

Than for the Excel
I write the Data source in the "File DSN" section

so
if u write a DSN than configure it
is the server name is true, than u are able to select a Database

Best regards...

I use database on SQLBase 7.5 and under platform NT4.0. Some of the client already upgrade to W2k profesional. The problem is I cannot configure ODBC to connect to SQLBase if my O/S is W2K but can configure under Win98. I want to know what can I do to solve this problem. I have to download third party software to support the ODBC but still cannot solve my problem.

I am running W2K and connect to SQLBase 7.5 with ODBC using the Centura 3.5 32 bit driver as indicated in the first posting of this thread.

HI, I am running Sqlbase 7.5 with ODBC Centrua 3.01 32 bit driver, but I am experiencing a problem, I am trying to build some reports in access (faster than the report builder from centura), when I linked the tables, and select the DSN, it ask for my user and password, but if I close MSAccess and then open again the DB, and try to open the table, it gives me and "ODBC Called failed" because it doesn't ask for my password. Where I can configure that it has to ask for a password every time?

Thanks,

Hi, I develop on ASP and Java. I have been using SQL Server and MYSQL, but now I need to use SQLBase. It appears that the ODBC of sqlbase doesnt work as smooth as i thought. I cant open the datadase from the pages...

After having battled the SQLBase/ODBC issue for a long time I have finally gotten to the point of reliably getting it to work. First, the ODBC drivers that come with the Centura 7.5.1 are not the newest. If you install them and it says it doesn't need to upgrade them, you are ok. If it does upgrade them, you will need to download the latest from Microsoft because Centura's are lacking part of the files. After installation, go to the ODBC32 section of whatever operating system you are running. Configure the SQLBase 35 Drivers by setting up the Name, DB, Server and a PW. To connect with MS Access, you will need to check the Password box as you are selecting the tables for linking. This will store the PW and avoid the error on connect that some are experiencing. To see the connection attributes go to the linked table in Access, open it in read only design mode (the only way you can), right click on the bar at the top of the design setup (I use the area above Description), and a box will open that will give you the parameters by which this table is connected. The only problem that I have found with this method is that there is a time out of maybe 15 minutes after which time Access will crash. If anyone knows how to lengthen this I would love to know. The timeout is reset everytime you ask for data, however.

Where can i get the ODBC driver for Centura SQL.

i want to connect to a SQL Base Server from a client machine using ODBC, but i dont know where to find it!!
