I am having trouble setting up an ODBC client DSN connection. I have Pervasive SQL 2000i (sp3) server installed on NT4 (sp6). I have created an ODBC engine DSN on the server. However, when I try to create a client DSN on the workstation (Win98 Pervasive 2000i sp3), I get a message "Unable to retrieve DSNs on the specified remote server...make sure there are available sessions...". Would appreciate anyone who can tell me what I'm missing here.

Thanks

Sounds like the communication between the client and the server isn't working correctly. Can you access the DSN you created on the server through the Pervasive Control Center? That'll make sure that the problem isn't in the engine. When you create the Client DSN, how are you specifying the server address? Are you using TCP/IP? If so, and you are using the server's name, try the server's IP address instead. If you are using SPX, make sure that the Pervasive ODBC has been set to use SPX on the server(it uses TCP/IP by default).

Yes, I can access the DSN through the Control Center on the server. I can establish an ODBC connection to the DB using an application on the server, but not from a client. I am using TCP/IP and have tried both Server name and IP address.

Wltenney: You should bring up the monitor utility on your server and make sure that your license was applied correctly on the server. You can execute the monitor through Programs>Pervasive>Pervasive.SQL 2000i>utilities>Monitor. It will connect to your local server when it starts. Then chose the MicroKernel>Resource Usage window. It will display a Maximum value, and current and peak. Make sure that you have available licenses for your client to use and that other apps are not using all the available licenses. If this does not work run the Pervasive System Analyzer (PSA). It is accessible from the same menu as above for Monitor. Select to run the tests for Network, Transactional (Btrieve), and Relational (ODBC).
I work in the Pervasive engineering department, so if this does work let me know and there may be further debugging required.
Thanks,
Debie
