From SQL Server 2005, receiving intermittant (very unpredictable) timeouts.
If the SQLSERVERAGENT service blows up and scheduled maintenance doesn't run for a week or two, we've seen it get VERY bad. As long as I make sure that's running to do the nightly cleanup, it's better, but not fixed.
The SQL server logs show nothing in Enterprise Manager, nor does Event Manager on the server. I'm pretty well stumped. Everything's working as it should, except users are sitting for disproportionately long periods of time (I presume the 30 seconds needed for a timeout to occurr) and then being shown the message -- on items that should take half a second to load (combo boxes and such).
I've seen references to all kinds of things but none of them have lead anywhere. The problem has persisted across two different servers, using various versions of Access clients, and can go for two weeks without appearing or happen 30 times in one day. Help would be very much appreciated.
