Avaya is not accepting any more orders to expand the ports or mailboxes on any Octels as far as i know.

The Octel is not being sold any longer and is being phased out. The new MM system is the replacement for it.

They will support it till 2011 but have stopped any upgrades and software bit's from being turned on to try and reduce the number of systems they have to support.

Thanks Ken! I will call Avaya and satisfy my boss with their answer!

Hi AMGTEKIII

Ken is right on this!
We have the same problem, so we tell our costumers to tidy up, and delete mailboxes not in use.
Just up to the end of support for OCTEL Serenade 200/300, we had many orders to authorize (open) licenses for mailboxes.

I knew he was, he usually is.......but I got the official email from Avaya .....got to satisfy the boss....

Robert,
I checked with our technical group and got some bad news. We no longer do any additions or changes on the Octel product line. This went end of sale for Avaya in July of 2007. I have copied your Avaya Account Executive on this email so Anthoney can call and discuss options you have with our messaging platforms.
Again I am sorry that I can not provide the cost to activate 8 more ports in your Octel system.

Yes the system will still let you price it out but they will not fill the order. It does seem odd to me that if it involves
software only that they would not want to put that money in their pocket.

I know that most if not all of the hardware is not made any longer by the suppliers and they are hording as many parts as they can for maint until 2011.

Funny thing is that we get calls from Avaya now and then to supply parts to them.

When we would order a system we always got the spares kit as it was much less then buying spares later on.

So we will support the Aria line for years to come.

Hello!

I remember to have had the same problem with the expansion of ports for an OCTEL Serenade 200/300 as yours.
It was no problem if you use analog ports.
Let me know what type of PBX you have installed.
If it can use analog ports with the LIC-4 or LIC-8 boards, it is not necessary to have a license (Authorization), because this is included in the hardware.
Also let me know your software level.
Log on to the OCTEL Serenade an write @L F (full printout).
If your Serenade is an OCTEL 200, there could be a software lock - disabling the number of ports.
This is seen in the lower part of the @L F:

MAXIMUM NUMBER OF DRIVES: 3
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PORTS: 64
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF SCHEDULE TABLE ENTRIES: 8
NUMBER OF LANGUAGES: 1

So post the full @L F, so I can dig into this issue.

I beleive the Dotor is correct, however the PIC ports would suggest that you are digitally integrated through those ports to the PBX. So if you where able to shuffle your traffic so that calls not needing intergration (general auto attendant) you could use the LIC cards to handle that traffic and expand your ports in service that way.

Anyway my statements work fine when the PBX is an Ericsson MD110 and the s/w of the OCTEL Serenade is version 2.0.2-2.
