Is there a Octel PBX or key system? I had a call about a job and i was told they had an Octel PBX but it seems everything i find is referring to Avaya Octel Messaging system. She wasnt technical so she may have been referring to the messaging system but if there is an Octel PBX could someone please refer me to the website or somewhere to find some docs.

Thanks,
Bito

Hi

Octel is a stand alone voice mail system normally works to a Meridian using 2616 handsets configured with mik/mak keys

no i've never ran into any octel except a poor excuse for a voice mail.. very user friendly, not that many options. menus can get a little bumpy.. they have some high dollar interface boxes that if you take the cover off of, have a 2616 inside.. looks sorta strange, cust paid around 800 per, for 8 boxes, 2616 with 2 solder connections..

I think she didn't know what she had. Only Octel I ever ran into was voicemail.

Thanks guys.. i think your right. I found the job posting and it said supporting pbx/octel. One more question, any guesses on the type of pbx? My experience is on an 81c, i told her it wouldnt be a problem supporting what ever it was they were using but would like to investigate some documentation if i could.

thanks,

bito

no, octel can be nailed on to almost any switch. if the person your talking to doesn't know the switch type, maybe the interview questions will not include a lot of ld 88 questions

If you can work on the 81c, you can probably become comfortable with anything.....you may not like it as much.

all the pbx's I have worked on all did the same thing. give dialtone. You just have to figure out the language to make it happen.

And that's funny. Ask LD 88 questions. I had to interview once and they had their in house tech on the line and he started asking all kinds of questions like he had a book in front of him.

I eventually told him, that if he had time to memorize the db level drop when 5 people were on a conference call, he had way too much time on his hands. He shut up and his manager started laughing. Turned down the job, because who would want to work with that guy.

lol...ld 88 questions, now i get it. I am sure i will be able to get the hang of it (what ever "it" is) at least i know where to go if i have any questions, like huh... how do i log in?

If it's a different switch, maybe you can start a new forum on Tek-Tips!
