I just moved a tape drive from an old 250 into a new one. Does anyone know of a way to activate feature 77 without having to call Avaya.

as far as I remember, Avaya is the only way to get features activated.

You must have
Avaya or a Avaya Partner order the feature bit to get it turned on. If you have 2 Octel there is a way to move seats and ports but not feature bits.

Go to our website for more info.

Ken, as a certified BP, can you all turn on features or do you have to call in for them too??

We must order it from Avaya but BP's like us get a bigger discount and then pass it on to the customer.

thanks Ken, I knew we got a discount, but I started to think you could activate them yourselves,
I did not think they would give away the cash cow

Question for Mr. Ken Means:
When will AYAVA close for the activation of new licenses in the OCTEL message servers (200/250/300/350)?

I have heard that hardware and new systems will be discontinued in 2007. When will AVAYA service be ended for the mentioned platforms?

Thanks in advance.

doktor see below. They also say that upgrades stopped on june of this year but we can still order them and have been for customers.

Effective June 30, 2007, Avaya will no longer sell expansions or additions (for example, adding seats, features or ports for growth) to existing Octel Octel 250 (Aria) or Octel 350 (Aria) systems. The end of sale date for Octel 250 and Octel 350 new systems and upgrades will take place on June 30, 2006 as announced in a separate letter.

Avaya will provide manufacturer support for the maintenance of Octel 250 and Octel 350 systems, subject to the terms and conditions of your maintenance contract and a specific system?s release status, through June 30, 2011. After this date, Avaya may choose to provide some level of extended support, which will be evaluated based on future parts availability and other factors.

I was able to get Avaya to turn the feature on, but when I status the drive. I show that the SW is enabled, but I get blank reading for installed and running. When I try to do a backup, it fails and I get "unusable tape". The tape is brand new. Any ideas?

do you install the drive? got to go into menu 20 drive install utilities and run the install for that drive.

It is Dat2. I have tried going to the Operations Menu to install the drive, but drive 6 is not an option.

you will need the engineering bit enabled to get to those options. Used to be you had to contact Avaya support directly but that may have changed. Your certified BP may have that ability now.

Is the green light on the drive? It does not get installed it would need to be enabled. You can not install a tape drive.

Yes, thank you for all your help. It seems that the brand new data tape was bad. Swapped it out and the backup was sucessful. Thanks again.
