We have an Octel 200 voice mail connected to a Definity phone system. The Octel is not sending the signal to the Definity to turn message lights on on the digital phones (7406Ds.) I have had no training or guidence on the Octel. Can anyone help?

I would logon to the system using Hyperterminal or Procomm using a serial cable just plugged in front of the OCTEL/Serenade 200 server. If you open the door there is a 25 pin V24/RS232C connector. Just use 9600/7 bits/even parity/one stopbit. Hit enter a couple of times and the a request for password will appear.
You arrive in a @-prompt. Write L H to check the alarm log.
You can post it here. Search through this forum for many good informations. Good luck.

I am only seeing ID and serial #s and then 'cleared 02/20 17:24 and PBX:23 Table is empty' Looked a second time and it was all the same except it was 'PBX:235' Are these errors??

If it says "TABLE IS EMPTY", then there are no faults.
Try a MWL RELITE at the @-prompt. This updates all the message waiting lamps.

When I try the 'MWL RELITE' it keeps saying 'command not allowed?'

There exists 3 login account on the OCTEL 200: MAINT, ADMIN and REPORT. It seems that you have the ADMIN account right, but the MAINT level is needed to do an MWL RELITE.
Try to dial into a mailbox and leave a message. With the reports tool @L R 8 (and the mailbox number) you can see, if the message exist in the MB. Hereafter the message lamp should light up.
Also see if you can get the MAINT password for doing the MWL RELITE.

Are the other phones' MW lights working ok? If so, I would first check the mailbox and lake sure it's not built as a "guest" mailbox with no extension. Find another extension with a light that's working-let's call that one X223. Let's say your extension is X222:
- Log into the Octel
-at the @ prompt enter u for update
-enter l u 223
it should read 223,223,COS XX, Y, Last Name, First Name
(your extension 222 COS should be the same as X223
- enter l u 222
it may read 222, COS ZZ, Y, Last Name, First Name
(no extension here for people without phones))
it should read 222,222,COS XX(same as X223), Y, Last Name, First Name
change it by entering
-mod u 222
enter-222,222,COS XX(same as X223),Last Name, First Name
it then reads (222,222,COS XX, Y or N, Name
(the N means the password is default and a new password must be entered when accessing first time. Y means password has already been set.

I know that's long, I hope that makes sense to you.
