I'm having problems with an Octel 200 that is not answering.

I have checked the hardware errors and they are priority 2.

Does anyone have Serenade 2 documentation so I can check the erros an what they mean.

Please Help!

Please post the @ LH and I can "translate"...

Good old SIC-8..

I guess that you have a Nortel PBX with type "2216" digital phones an serial modules cabled into the OCTEL 200 to the SIC-8 board in SLOT=6.

Your L H alarm list says:
TYPE=24 Integration error in SLOT=6
DATA 1:

0C = UNEXPECTED CARD STATE
DATA-2 = CARD STATE
00 = RESET*
01 = FATAL ERROR
02 = DOWNLOAD
03 = CARD UP
DATA-3 = TASK STATE
00 = RESET
01 = DOWNLOAD*
02 = WAIT AFTER DOWNLOAD
03 = UP

DATA 1:
05 = LIC REPORT LINK STATUS ERROR
The digit display telephone line to the integration card is not working.
DATA-2 = LINK NUMBER HAVING ERROR
DATA-3 = LINK STATUS
DATA-4 = STATE OF LIC TASK WHEN ERROR OCCURRED
REMEDY: Check the PBX status on the line if DATA-3 = 03 or
check the wiring or PBX hardware if DATA-3 = 04.

Try to start up the SIC-8 by:
@c u 6 1
Let me know your result.
(Check wiring just in case).
What made the system stop working?
Power loss?

///doktor

Let me try that and I will le you know.

I have done what you told me an there were the response from the Octel:

@c u 6 1
Sale: Unknown table specified

C u 6 1
Invalid command (? For help)

@cu 6 1
Sale: Unit already in service

What happen is that we turn off the Octel and moved it to another place. We have checked the wiring and it looks fine.

One question, we have 3 M2616 telephones and that are connected to the Octel using a serial cable, on the back of the telephone I have a red light that is blinking, does it have to be like that?

One other thing if I have 3 phones why does it appear on the Octel that ther are 2 links?

The cabling now must match the cabling at the "old" site.

The OCTEL 200 is connected to the Nortel PBX by means of analog lines (ckeck by: .l slot (all slots)).
These boards are LIC-4 or LIC-8.

The SIC-8 is used to light up (turn on/off) the message lamps. The 3 pcs. of 2616 keysets equipped with data modules do this job.
Make sure that the cabling is exactly as before.
I will check for the c u command.
C U is curtisy UP, and C D is curtisy DOWN.

///doktor

This doc is gold:

Courtesey, and not "curtisy" !!

CD x y Takes the integration unit out of service.
x = slot number
y = unit number
CU x y Brings the integration unit into service.
x = slot number
y = unit number

Try:
CU 6 1
CD 6 1

IMPORTANT:
I think that the SIC-8 is running OK, but the integration is not working because of "swapped cables" or malprogrammed 2216 phones.

Let me know your status...

///doktor

Post the:

.l slot

with all boards.

I am sure that all extension numbers of the analog line boards (LIC-4 or LIC-8) can be called.

///doktor

do you have any documentation on how the M2616 phones must be configured and wired?

Still searching the SIC-8 drwing concerning the wiring...

I can remember that a small serial port distributor board was used.
In the OCTEL 200 - in SLOT=6, you have installed the SIC-8 board. On the back side - an Amphenol cable should go from the OCTEL to this serial port distributor board.
The channels on this serial port distributor board is named serial 1 to 8.
From the commands printouts I can see that your SIC-8 is programmed to use serial #2 and #4.

LINK 2 STATUS = DEAD
LINK 4 STATUS = DEAD

Try to swap these or install a serial cable from the 2216 keysets to serial #2 and #4.
Check the programming in the Nortel PBX, maybe th e2 keysets have been swapped cablewise.
SIC-8 works well with the correct cabeling.

I will keep looking for the drawing....

///doktor

Did not find the drawing!

But I can remember the serial distribution panel, also called "patch panel" consists of 9 connectors.
8 of these are serial connectors (RS-232 or V.24).
The last connectors is the Amphenol connector and cable to the P6 port of the OCTEL 200 (on the back).

Also check th this:

Can you tell me if this patch panel exist and is cabled accordingly?

Let me know about your status.

I found the SIC-8 doc with the wiring, testing and commands, and I can send it to you:

Use this link to see my info.

The Octel 200/300 installation kit supports one SIC8 board and contains the following:

Part Number Quantity Description
300-6040-001 1 SIC8 8-channel board assembly
520-6007-001 1 2-ft. female-to-female 25-pair cable
SA10076-05 1 10 ft. female-to-female 25-pair cable
740-6126-001 1 SIC8 I/O Panel

The SIC8 I/O panel connects eight external M2616 modular telephones to the SIC8 board via RS-232C
cables.
The M2616 modular telephone designated for link 1 is connected to IJ1, link 2 in IJ2, link 3 in IJ3, etc.

///doktor

Thank you so much, let me try all the thing you have told me, I will let you know what I see.

Thanks again.

You are welcome...
Just let me know, if you want more info.

///doktor

I have send you the updated doc on SIC-8 and Meridian PBX.

///doktor

Thanks for the document.

I have one question, the M2616 phones have tone and are working correctly.

Do you think the problem is in the serial cable or board that is behind the Octel?

The serial cable is a typical RS-232 25 pin cable?

The serial cable is straight forward from the patch panel to the M2616 phones data connector.
Make sure that Link 2 and 4 (IJ2 and IJ4) is connected to the patch panel.
Use the test section of the doc I sent to you and try to carry out the test described.
Make sure that all cabling is "tight" and fixed well.
I guess that the fault lies with the cabling (maybe swapped) and the maybe missing data in the Meridian PBX.
