Hi,
i've only just purchsed myself a used Octane system to learn real UNIX and the finer points of SGI systems.

I'm having some problems getting the workstation to see the internet and my shared folders on the network I have setup at home.

My current network consists of:
A linux box running mandrake 9.1, with IP-masq and firewall running on it, this is my web access box / gateway / router

The other 2 systems on the network are my Octane system and a windoze XP system, i can access the internet fine from the XP system and from the linux box, but not at all from my SGI system (at one stage i could FTP into a server at the uni i go to), but still couldnt access the net at all, i keep getting the 'network unreachable' error

I can ping all the computers on my network, and ping back to the octane fine, but cant ping out to the internet... i watch the lights on the modem and it appears that data goes out, but nothing comes back for some reason, as the ping responses, say 'reply from xxx (ip address) network unreachable

its like there is ping packets getting out and the system can make outgoing connections, but not get anything incoming...

if anyone can help me with my dillema, please do as i would really appreciate it :)

Hi,

Make sure that the following file has the address of your default router /etc/config/static-route.options. It should have the following entry

$ROUTE $QUIET add default XXXX

were XXXX is the ip-address of your router.

Hope this works.
