OCR in Delphi

Hi..

I work at a mail company, and we are looking for some options before buying a very expensive OCR application.

We need to scan about 5,000 to 6,000 forms daily, I think it's not a large volume but we want to improve the performance of the deliveries.

I was thinking that maybe it were possible to make a program using some OCR software/component, could anyone help me wit this?.. URL's, websites, etc.

I did a quick Google search on "Delphi OCR Component" and found the following toward the top of the list:

I've personally used components from Skyline Tools at

http://www.skylinetools.com.

I haven't used their OCR stuff, but I have used their TWAIN scanning components - easy to use and great support.

I checked those sites and I'll evaluate what is my best option for the project. The other solutions people gave me were way too expensive for my budget, and these are just fine.

The most accurate OCR software that I've come across is ABBYY FineReader. In the UK, version 5 was free on the January 2004 issue of Personal Computer World magazine.

ABBYY sell SDKs which come as DLLs. They are not cheap and so may be over your budget. But it might be worth getting the free version to see how accurate FineReader is compared to other solutions. The savings that accuracy might deliver may more than offset the extra cost.

I found that the ABBYY FormReader offers exactly what we are looking for, and since we are not developing many applications maybe a SDK is too much because it would be used only once.

Now, if you know where I could find some decent scanner, maybe with autofeed, or something like a "money counter" because the forms we use are about 3" x 2.5" and, as I told in my first post, we need to scan about 5-6 thousand forms daily.
