My dad brought me home an O2 from his work and they had to destroy the Hard drives in them, so I put a new one in, which I am pretty sure is empty. Last night I downloaded Irix 6.5.16 and created the seperate cd's that it asked for. One of the CD's is called "Install Tools" and the online manual said that it needs to be put in first. When I get into the BIOS and click the "Install System Software". I choose the local CD-ROM Drive to install from and click continue. It tells me to put the CD into the drive and I put the "Install Tools" CD into the drive and hit continue. That's when the following error comes up:
-----------------------------------------------------
dks0d4s8: Volume Header not valid
Unable to execute pci(0)scsi(0)cdrom(4)partition(8) SashARCS: Media not loaded
Cannot Load pci(0)scsi(0)cdrom(4)partition(8)sashARCS -- media not loaded
Unable to continue; press <enter> to return to the menu.
-----------------------------------------------------
any help is greatly appreciated becuase this is driving me up the wall. On all the websites about installing Irix there's a lot of mentions of sashARCS yet it did not come with the download. HELP!! :-D
Thanks in advance
Mike

Sounds like you may have not burned the CD properly, or some type of problem with the burn occured.

That first line about the volume header seems to indicate that. The other two appear to be failures to load sash which would be the result of the CD not working properly in the first place.

On a side note, don't forget that in addition to the downloadable updates, you will need the 6.5 base install media as well. Irix 6.5 Foundation 1, Foundation 2, etc.

jacko24 is right,I don't know which kind of CD ISO you've downloaded, I guess you burned CD on the PC? Normally, you should use "CD copy" to create, I used "NERO BURN ROM" to do this, it was Ok.

Hi,

You might be able to copy an existing CDROM that way, but the downloaded OS loaded into a CD image and then burned will not work.

The CD with Installation tools is not ISO9660. it has an efs filesystem on it including a volume header (partition 8) with the stand alone shell (sash). This must be loaded into RAM to tell the system how to load the miniroot and installation tools.

You might want to ask your dad if he can borrow a set of disks to load the OS on your system. If that is not available, check E-Bay for a FULL SET of OS disks.

I dot think It is a problem with the Media CD
I do have the same problem. But I made sure that the burned Os from the Image is OK by using it on INDY R5000.
And It started installation just fine.
So here I am have no idea what else to do.
