Against my better judgement, I installed SP7 tonight only to find that it updated dsrepair and ds.nlm. Now with ds 8.85c and dsrepair 10205.41 (i think) the database wont close to run dsrepair or a dstrace=*.

Anyone else having these issues? This has happened on 2 seperate servers, so I've held off continuing. According to a trace screen, it appears as though all partitions are continuing to sync ok, im just worried about not being able to run a dsrepair correctly. It does run if I load server -ndb.

After you have run DSREPAIR with the server -ndb, does it run DSREPAIR when the server is properly booted? Did you run a DSREPAIR prior to the upgrade to clear any outstanding issues with DS?

Is your SYS volume ok for diskspace (both before and after the upgrade)?

Thanks for the reply..

I did load the server -ndb and do a dsrepair, that completed successfully, but of course ds reloads without the dib set after. I rebooted the server and the same thing happens. I also wanted to run a vrepair just to make sure all was ok, but of course ds wont unload to dismount sys. So again, I loaded server -ndb and then dismounted sys. I ran the vrepair and had it purge all files and write out all files to fat. That completed fine, with a few errors, but I attributed that to the purge. Checked the volume, remounted and it was ok. I bounced the server and again, same thing! I'd say that something is holding the database from unloading or communications or something, but i've tried all of the backrevving that I dare to do. I've remmed everything out of autoexec.ncf so that its only loading the loadstages.

Im stumped!

Thanks again for the reply.

Try bringing the server up -na (no AUTOEXEC.NCF) so the netwrk drivers do not load. Try DSREPAIR then....

do you get any errors?

this sounds like the old problem of checking space to run - so it never completes - if it is i think you dsrepair -av

it was also a solaris issue

although i think this was on 5.1 but it was the 8.5 ish area family

In the 5.0 days (and early 5.1), the licensing modules would cause DSREPAIR to hang. Sometimes you can unload these modules and it will release the necessary resources..

Just do a UNLOAD NLSLSP from the console. you may have to do it a few times until the repair kicks off, it reloads automatically every 10 seconds.

TheLad, you're the man! That did it. I'd have never thought that the nic drivers would do it! Wow, amazing.. I just backrevved from like 7.x something another from HP all the way back to like 4.19 from Compaq, and it appears to communicate just fine, as well as now it'll release the database and repair. Great work, thanks a million!
