We have been testing NW6 for 2 months and I have applied the SMS
patch and beta patch 011210n6.exe with DS 8.6.1 and NICI 2.0.1. So
far it's fairly stable with GW6, Apache and iFolder, the NW Enterprise
Web Server and NDPS have not faired as well (but that's another
story). Our biggest problem is backing up the NW6 server from an NW5
server with Arcserve 7, we can create the job but it fails with, "E3191
Failed to attach to server". There is a beta patch 011210n5.exe that
was recommended, but I am reluctant to install a beta on our
production servers, especially when it replaces Server.exe. Has anyone
been successful backing up NW6 from NW5 (maybe we're crazy) or
have any ideas we can test?

My experience of Arcserve 7 woiuld suggest there lies the problem. A site I have been installing on has had CA engineers on-site for a couple of weeks and they still can't get a reliable backup. I have always advocated Arcserve with Novell but Arcserve 7 may have killed it.

Can u backup any remote server from the NW5 box?

You have tsa600.nlm loaded?

I know these are obvious but may help.

Guys:

Here is a fix that works....

Use the Arcserve, but use "St Bernard's Open files manager,"
not the Computer Associates Open fies manager.

St Bernard, is a small company that has been licensing their open files technolgoy to everybody else for decades.

Been a happy user for a decade at my sites.

Version for netware 6 is coming out shortly.

Thanks for the info, I will look into that product. The problem I have has more to do with authentication. I am scheduled for the NW6 workshop this week, if I get a working answer I will publish it here.

Thanks again,

Al

OK, it's working now. Turns out it was a corrupt server license. Thanks to everyone for the help.
