nVidia TNT2 M64 32mb resolution problem

I upgraded video cards from an 8mb ATI to nVidia TNT2 M64 32mb card. Running Win98.

When I switch to higher resolutions like 1600 by 1200, the display changes but the desktop and icons are dark and the title bars are pink. 1600 by 1200 worked with my old card and same monitor (Dell 17.9 viewable).

I have the latest Detonator drivers that I got from nVidia's website.

I have adjusted the Brightness and Contrast but that did not help.

Any suggestions?

Post the rest of your hardware information:
The mainboard.

Did you do an install of DirectX 8.1 *BEFORE* you loaded up the new Nvidia drivers ?

1600 x 1200 is rather high,,,,,, it maybe you didn't get a name brand video card,,,,, and it's just maxed out.

However,,,,, if you have a VIA chipset based mainboard,
you may not have the right AGP driver in your system,
if you didn't get a clean uninstall of the old video card.

Post more info.

Thanks for the reply. I updated DirectX agter installing the new drivers. I did not uninstall the old video drivers.

I will play around with that and post back.

I am running the same video card on my P-III machine with DirectX 8.1 without any problems. My guess is to uninstall and reinstall the video card and drivers.

My guess is your new video card simply does not support 1600x1200. To redo80, you probably do not have the same video card, as there were many companies who put out their own cards based off the TNT2 M64 chip.

Most cards built with the TNT2 M64 chip were designed solely for reduced costs, with added features taking a backseat. Do you have a manual or users guide with your video card? What does that say?

dakota81, you are probably right. My card came with my Dell system. Sorry if I jumped the gun here, just a thought.

That's fine - it's also more towards everyone, you can have like an nVidia graphics card made by Hercules where you know you've got top quality and performance; then you can have an nVidia graphics card made by a cheap company like Pine (do they still exist?) where they will take the M64 chip and produce a marginally speedy card with limited Direct3D support (I have used one of Pine's cards w/ the M64 chip).

I see this assumption quite often that all nVidia video cards are equal, so to AbeStein, I'm just wondering who makes your card and do you have a manual stating what the card's capable of?
