G'day ppls, i have a problem with redhat 6.0, i can get into Gnome but when i'm in there the icons are HUGE! like a res of about 320x240, i have run xf86config and selected a generic video card , and i have run xconfigurator i can physically change the res but when i log in again it is still 320 x 240. I also try changing the res with CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE but it still doesn't change. Also i can only do a test run in xconfigurator in 8bit mode, if i try any others it says there's an error. Also when it tests the Xwindows it is still in 320x240. Hence i can't use linux, if anyone can help it would be appreciated! Cheers!

Try adding frame buffer support to the kernel, and then using the frame buffer X server. As long as you pass the correct parameters to the kernel via LILO, you can run your graphics card at your desired resolution.

Most modern graphics cards should be able compatible with the frame buffer server, but I'd strongly recommend looking at the FrameBuffer HOWTO and the /usr/src/linux/documentation/fb documentation before doing anything.

You might also want to look at <A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> to see if the TNT2 is specifically supported by XFree86 V4.

HTH.

This is a problem you'll always encounter when the Xwindows is running with the default VGA server. You should use the apropriate XServer - in your case the NVidia. Check the producer site and you'll find there all you need. I have a Sniper TNT2 and works really fine with that XServer.
And, btw, use CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE to __KILL__ the XWindows session and not to change the resolution. Use CTRL+ALT+"+" or "-" (on the grey pad)to change resolution...

Valachi

My name is Toni and I'm from Portugal:
After I Bought my NVIDIA RIVA TNT 2 M64, my computer completely freezes in about an hour of
playing any game. Even games that should not require aceleration, and which I played with no problem in my S3.
Is there anything I can do beside saving constantly...!!?

I just want to point out, a TNT2 M64 is NOT a TNT2, it's like a TNT1 performance, since it's a TNT2 cut in half.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in : C++(both VC++ and Borland),VB1(dos) thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, HTML, Visual InterDev 6(ASP(WebProgramming/Vbscript)
Toni, have you tried grabbing the latest drivers for your card? Also, what version of Linux do you use?

--
