Nupoint: we have 10 VM ports. Under line groups, we have configured a total of 4 line groups: 1 for MWI, 1 for each office location (3 total locations); each office location has 3 ports dedicated to their office.

We, at times, have VM issues (VM not answering due to no ports available) because when you dial the VM #, it is programmed to pull from VM ports 1-10. If location 1 is programmed w/ ports 0-2, and a caller is routed to recipients VM and it picks port 0-2 (which main VM # can do), VM never answers.

So here is my thinking/questioning:
What purpose does the administrator mbox serve? Can it be removed since each port is designated as an attendant mbox?

Can I create 2 line groups: 1 for MWI (needed) and 1 for all other VM ports (1-9) knowing that each location will get a dedicated phantom extension that directs them to the designated mbox for that location?

The admin mailbox is for remote administration ( via a phone ) and some other stuff. I would not delete it. What is it you are trying to do with the multiple line groups? I have to assume you are not clustered otherwise you could use all the ports as a centralized voicemail. I am confused. If you have one line group for MWI, how does it know what location the set is to turn on the MWI if they are not clustered?

I am confused as well and relatively new to this, so bear w/ me here please..... we are clustered. Also, we have a backup vm in a remote location sitting as a standby (second location). This is how call flow works:

Main # in location 1 (3943) is a speed call to hunt group 3500
Hunt Group #: 3500 (internal# for operator - 5330 phone)
- Hunt Group Members: 3501-3506 (line appr on operator phone)
Hunt Group #: 3000 has 3 ports for company general mailbox (VM ports 1,2,3)
Call Reroute 3500: RERoutes to HG 3000
General Mailbox # in Nupoint is: 3500
Under NuPoint

Main # in location 2 (4943) is a speed call to hunt group 4500
Hunt Group #: 4500 (internal# for operator - 5330 phone)
- Hunt Group Members: 4501-4506 (line appr on operator phone)
Hunt Group #: 4000 has 3 ports for company general mailbox (VM ports 4,5,6)
Call Reroute 4500: RERoutes to HG 4000
General Mailbox # in Nupoint is: 4500

Main # in location 3 (5943) is a speed call to hunt group 4500
Hunt Group #: 5500 (internal# for operator - 5330 phone)
- Hunt Group Members: 5501-5506 (line appr on operator phone)
Hunt Group #: 5000 has 3 ports for company general mailbox (VM ports 7,9,10)
Call Reroute 5500: RERoutes to HG 5000
General Mailbox # in Nupoint is: 5500

In communications director:
another hunt group for nupoint vm is 6000. HG 6000 has vm port members 1-10 (minus port 8))

In NuPoint, the following is our config:
Line Groups:
1-Location 1: ports associated 1,2,3
2-Location 2: ports associated 4,5,6
3-Location 3: ports associated 7,9,10
4-MWI: port associated 8

Under each line group, under VM tab, we have the following settings:
1. the attd mbox is mbox # of line (ex: locale 1 x3500, attd mbox is 3500)
2. the admin mbox is 7771 for location 1; 7772 for location 2; 7772 for location 3

Mailboxes:
3500 - location 1
4500 - location 2
5500 - location 3
7771 for location 1
7772 for location 2 and 3
7777 for "admin"

my questions are:
1. Do we need mailboxes/line groups 7771 & 7772?
2. Would the line group config above cause a situation when a call is transferred to vm, the vm never picks up? the phone just rings non-stop?

I presume that mailboxes 7771 & 7772 are auto-attendants respective of each location (different auto-attendant greetings)
