Numbering Query Results Within GroupBy 1

How can I make a query that outputs a numbering field, starting at 1 for each GroupBy value? In a simple example, the result should look like this:

Day Customer Number
Monday A 1
Monday B 2
Monday C 3
Tuesday A 1
Tuesday C 2
Tuesday E 3
Tuesday F 4
etc.

(In a next step, I want to use these record numbers for a crosstab which uses 'Day' as ColumnHeader, 'Number' as RowHeader and 'Customer' as Value, just to give you the underlying idea.)

My question is only about how to get such a group numbering done, can anyone help?
