Pretty simple question..

Can you choose which page the numbers start from in Word?

I have a document that needs numbering, but the actual page 1 is page 9 in the document...

Whats the solution?

In your header/footer toolbar click on the page symbol with two +s, wich gives you page number format.

Thanks, but that hasn't seemed to have helped!

Can you be a bit more specific?

Where are you displaying your page number?
(BTW, I'm using 2000, & can't guarantee, it'll work in other versions)

Ah, just realised why it didn't help, what I should have said was the symbol with a # and a hand.

sigh...I did that, and all it did was start numbering from page 1, but page one was labelled page 10, page 2..11 etc.

Why cant Microsoft make things easy?!

If I understand you correctly, you want a page inside the document to "start over" at page 1?

If so you need to insert a section break (insert menu - break - choose section - next page) before the page you want numbered as 1.

Then view the footer / header of that page, click the #hand symbol, and then enter 1 in the "start at" field.

Or have I misunderstood completely?

OK, I'm confused! I was thinking you wanted the first page of your document to be numbered 9. Do you mean you want the 9th page of your document to be numbered 1?

Sorry, posted at the same time, I'm going with what Patrik said [smile]

Yes, thats right, sorry about that.

It's actually the tenth page that I want to be called page 1.

I shall give the section break a shot.

Thanks :)

OK, thanks, I am now half way there, I now have page 1 as the page 1 that I want to be page 1....if that makes any sense lol.

Next questiom though, i don't want the pages in section one to have numbers, I only want them to show up from page 1 onwards in section 2...

How can I do that?

If you go into your footer in the first page of your second section you'll see there's a button depressed on the toolbar, which if you roll the mouse over gives a tip of "Same as Previous". Click to deselect, then go into a footer in your first section & delete the page number.

Excellent, all done!

Have yourself a pink star :p

Cheers! Glad you're sorted.
