Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of the recommended amount of objects that can be stored in one Livelink folder.

For example, for us:

50-100 word docs = no problems.
500 docs = slower performance but about acceptable.
1000 docs = bordering unusable.

The IE view is always OK though as its paginated but the Explorer Professional saving window & Enterprise Connect 10 saving window is seeing this problem up close and this is where the bad user experience lie.

Or is it acceptable to store e.g. 20,000 items in a folder and performance to be OK.

Im finding it hard to get any guidance in this area.

Users and groups are used as least as possible & logs just slow a slow browse in heavily populated areas.

for pre 9.7.1 deployments the recommended limit was 250 items, although with pagination in 9.7.1 this limit is less of an issue. One of the big performance hits can be the number of checks that each row is subject to in terms of permissions checking for function menu, promoted commands etc.

Hi Greg,

We are on 9.7.1 so are fine as the pagination works with Internet Explorer. The problem is with the Livelink clients connecting into heavily populated areas using Explorer Pro 4.8.6 & EC10.

Would the solution be stick to say a 500 limit (not sure if you could enforce this though) and redesign the folder structure ?

Thanks

old lapi explorer did handle those numbers very readily I am not sure what enterprise Connect uses to get into livelink .Perhaps if you could find logs with a lapi explorer client vs the new EC10 client OT may be interested in stream lining the EC10 tool.
Kofax release scripts used to use lap and I have seen folders in excess of 20000 items in 9.5 livelink itself coping with not too much trouble.Well the webgui would paint very slow

Well, if I called the wrong number, why did you answer the phone?

Thanks all for your input here.

From our experience, EC10 performs a lot better than Explorer Professional 4.8.6 in regarding wait times when the clients connect in to save etc.

This is the bad experience that the users (clients connecting in) are going to see when we go over around 500 items per folder.

I wish we were using the IE browser only to work with LL as this would be fine (with pagination) but this is not realistic.

I cant imagine there is a limit to files in a folder - maybe something is wrong with our config then or we are populating folder too highly which 500-1000 would be disappointing :(
