I am displaying my crystal reports using ASP pages as the delivering medium. It seems that the limit of concurrent connections is 5. This meens that if more than 5 people access a report each, an error message appears stating that you have run out of concurrent user licenses.

Problem: I am using crystal reports developer edition (Cost: +/- $500)
I have been quoted $16404 to up the amount of concurrent connections to 20.
How on earth do they manage that!!!!!? When a full version of MsSql Server only costs $1000 dollars allowing unlimited connections?? My whole server didn't even cost $16404

How is a small business owner using Crystal sopposed to make reports available on the internet?
Is there a run-time version that isn't limited to 5 concurrent connections ??
- please God tell me there is!

Solution:

Don't use Crystal anything! Don't upgrade! If they want to charge us these outrageous prices, we can, as consumers not use their products.

We can just help their competitors gain market share by implementing their solutions and helping Crystal go out of business or change their ignorant pricing strategy.

It's not like they offer a solution that is mission critical, they are just reports.

Thanks

Ingensystems,

While I'm not commenting one way or another about CD's prices or your suggestion not to purchase their products.

I do take issue with your comment that systems just as these are "just reports" and not mission critical.

I have developed many "just reports" systems that my clients very much consider "mission critical". These "just reports" systems perform very important functions such as generating invoices, statements, marketing letters, KPI reports, commodity trading contracts, etc, etc.

Reports can be very much mission critical to an organisation so when they are it is important to choose software (from whatever vendor) that is able to meet mission critical requirements.
