When running an executable a window pops up for 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem containing the following error message:

The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:0000 IP:002a OP:63 03 54 00 63

The person who wrote the program sent a 'newer' NTVDM file saying this would fix the problem. NOT

NT 4.0 workstation / Service Pack 4 / NTVDM dated 10/15/1998(old) or 09/20/1999 (new)

Same version on my computer works, have logged onto the problem computer and it still doesn't work so it's not permissions.

Hi,

Try to apply the latest SP. If the problem still persists try comparing config.nt and autoexec.nt in both the machines and make necessory changes. Pls give me the event LogNo if the problem still persists.

rgds
SunilVarma

Up to SP6 - no change. Recompiled (PCS2) switching to 16 Bit (apparently defaults to 32) Still error message, compiled again as Administrator - worked. BUT will only work from command line, not a pif. Batch works but not with other commands. So ... have created a separate batch file with only this executable in it. Works. Now I am going to try call that batch file from another so the users don't have to do anything more than double-click an icon.

Thanks for your help, will let you know how it works.
