I have setup NTP on our Cisco 2801 but for some reason the time on our PCs here is still not correct (it's about 5 minutes fast). Here's what I have in the 2801 config for NTP:

scheduler allocate 20000 1000
ntp clock-period 17178933
ntp update-calendar
ntp server XX.XXX.XXX.X

Am I missing something? Is there something on my network that could be interfering?

I assume you are pointing your PC's to the 2801 as their NTP server? Or you have a Domain set up and you are pointing your PDC emulator at the 2801?

Might want to check your firewall to see if it will pass ntp traffic.

That just configures the router to get the time FROM a server...this does not hand out NTP time to pc's...

Burt-- I suspected that. What is the best way to go about getting the NTP info to my PC's? Do I set that up on my PDC?

You need to point your PDC emulator to the router. From a command prompt type the following:
Code:
net time /setsntp:10.1.1.1
or whatever the IP address of the 2801 is. If its a domain then the clients should automatically sync with a domain controller.

Andy---not to piggyback, but someone needs your assistance here

I am only telling you because I would like to know how to schedule jobs in the DOS command prompt in Windows---I'm pretty sure you're the one who posted that in a thread a while back, and I had it written down somewhere...thanks!

Burt

Andy--

I tried your suggestion but no luck (the command did complete successfully though). Yes, the clients all login to a domain. I must have something incorrect or missing in my 2801 config...?

ScottWIT,

Are your pcs running Microsoft Windows? If so, check your firewall settings to make UDP port 123 is allowed.

Well, I discovered that if I manually point the DNS on my laptop to our DNS servers my clock is then correct. So what does this mean? I do have our DNS pointing to them in the config for the 2801. But then again, the clocks on the DNS servers themselves are incorrect.

The issue is now fixed after I rebooted my PDC. I didn't think a reboot was necessary but it obviously was. :)
