Hello,

When I took my Windows XP HDD out of my XP machine and put it in another machine. It will not boot, I get NTLDR missing. The other machine previously had a win98 HDD in it.

The HDD with XP on it is FAT32, but I cannot understand why this error is happening. Its a straight HDD swap, the only problem I was predicting was hardware configurations in XP.

I cannot do sys C: because it does not exist on the HDD.

Anyone have any other ideas.

Thanx

Is it just XP on the drive? (no dual booting history?) Is ntldr (and ntdetect.com and boot.ini) in the root of the drive? If not, put them there (on XP install CD \i386). You could try using fixboot command from recovery console (boot from XP install CD, choose repair using recovery console - you'll need administrator password).

Would you please post this article. I am not a member.

Thanks

Hello Everyone,

I have took all advice, and it still giving me the same error.

I will have to transfer the HDD's to the new comps, then install win XP. Windows XP does not like being transfered between computers on FAT32.

But if moggy44 can post that article I will have another go.

Thanks
Phil
