Against my better judgement, I loaded an old copy of NTI CD-Maker on my computer. I went to NTI's website and downloaded and installed an update to my version. When I clicked on the icon to run the program, I recieved the blue screen of euthanasia, the one that kills Windows XP, (not the blue screen of death). After trying several things to get it running, I decided to go to add/remove programs, and once again I received the blue screen of euthanasia the instant I clicked on control panel. The only way to get to add/remove programs was to start in safe mode. (Incidentally, the help screen in my version of Windows XP is totally wrong on how to start in safe mode.) I was able to delete NTI's CD-Maker from my computer, but I still get the blue screen when I click on control panel. The blue screen says, "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer." The technical information says, "ASPI32.sys - Address f8a44825 base at F8a44000, date stamp 2ff6ee96.
What have I done and how do I fix it. Thanx in advance.

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with NTI.

While in Safe Mode did you try loading the "Last known good configuration"?

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

J741 & linney, thank you for your quick responses. I tried J741's reply since it was first and also only one step. IT WORKED. (It appears from reading Adaptec's instructions, that it was not necessary to start in safe mode, but I did anyway!) I'm back in business. Thanx again!!!
