Any idea's

Try to boot from the Windows cd then when it ask you what you wan't to do @ the frist screen select new instll. after it searches for prev. version of windows press r for repair

Tried that.

You get the blue screen what ever you select.

Thanks

chang the units ram swich or swap evan though it's vary uncommen for you to get a blue screen error while booting frm the windows cd select a temp. boot device (f12 for most laptop or change in the bios for the rest) and boot from the cd-rom device that contains a Windows cd

What is the full Stop Error number?

Sounds like your drive may need Formatting or worse. The drive manufacturer will have frre diagnostic software that is bootable which will thoroughly check the condition of this drive.

stop 0x0000007b

ntfs.sys is also mentioned.

You can't even boot to the recovery console as this message appears whatever you do.

It's a HP Pavilian ZV5000

Thanks

stop 0x0000007b can relate to any of the below:-

Boot-Sector Viruses, Try scanning your hdd with a AV boot disk with current db or if bios boot sector protect enabled? but this normaly only affects setup.

Device Driver Issues, registry be come croupted (But don't think this is your problem)

Hardware Issues, HDD or control could have died?

Sound to me like a hardware problem! As the windows cd use's basic controller drivers to load the ntfs.sys

Regards,
Darren.

Just another thing you said "Hp laptop will boot." have you just moved this hdd from one pc to another? as this can cause this error to. Happens coz the drivers are wrong if so have a look at this but be careful!!
Regards,
Darren

Tried using another PC to read it. You can hear the drive click and then the PC re-starts.

Looks to me like the Harddrive has gone?

Thanks

Either the disk has gone or you have an issue with the controller. We actually have the same issue atm.. replaced the drive out today but we have the same error.

New system board arriving tomorrow to swap out and test.

SimonD.

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.

Had to replace the drive and install XP.

Thanks for the help.

Kris
