I'm running XP Pro and decided to change my D: drive (partiion) to NTFS. The conversion appeared to go fine but when I click on the D: drive it asks me if I want to format the drive.

Under properties it lists the file system as RAW. I tried running the conversion again and it says the drive is already NTFS. Used space 0, available space 0. In the volume list it lists it as an 11 Gig drive as it should be.

Any help would be great.

Lloyd- it sounds like the drive had some errors converting, RAW means its partitioned but not formatted, and if it's prompting to format that confirms the partition. I'm sorry to say but you might of lost your data, search Microsoft for more solutions before reformatting the drive with NTFS completely. If the drive was empty originally then just format to NTFS. Keep your forum posted.

When I run chkdsk from a command prompt it indicates that it is an NTFS partion and sees all the data. Chkdsk seems to be the only thing that can see the drive.

I am curious as to whether or not it is possible that the system files for managing NTFS are loaded, just a thought but I don't know if it is possible or how to check it.

On the volume list the file system is blank, shows as RAW on the properties and NTFS in chkdsk.

I am avoiding the reformat option as it seems the data is still intact.

Out of desperation I purchased Partition Magic 7.0. It read the drive as being ok but I still couldn't access it. I converted the drive back to FAT32 and now the drive is functioning properly.

I still don't know what the problem was and if anyone does I would love to hear.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Lloyd.
