Running NT backup I continually get the below event log error

Tape device reported an error on a request to write data to tape.

Error reported:
Unrecognizable data.

(Proliant 6000 running NT 4.0 SP6)

Try to format the tape and then re-run backup. Joseph L. Poandl

JpoandI, Thanks for the input but I’ve attempted erasing/formatting the tapes with no luck the problem is intermittent.

Any other ideas (anyone)

Do you clean the heads regular?
Have you tried a different/new tape?

Kjonnnn, Yes I've cleaned the heads and used several different tape, thnks anyway. I’m also receiving the following message in the event log –
Event: ID 7
Source: 4mmdat
Type: Error
Category: None
Description: The Tape, \Device\Tape0, has a bad block

Any help would be appreciated

The event ID indicates a bad tape...but you may actually have hardware problems. Could be that the heads on the tape drive are damaged. Have you contacted your tape drive vendor?

Check your tape drive :

By default, Compaq does not set the termination power on his DAT, DLT, AIT, ... drives
If you use an active terminator on your SCSI Bus, termination power MUST be enabled.
Omitting this termination power, gives intermittent backup problems.

Good luck.
