ntbackup/DCOM error after server rename

I'm running a simple file server that I renamed. Scheduled backups using ntbackup fail to run after the rename unless I run them manually from Task Scheduler. Once they are run manually, all seems to work fine until the next server reboot.

Scheduled backups fail with an empty backup log - only the top line is written to the backup log file. The task scheduler log file has entries that indicate that the task started and completed with exit code 0. The time between start and stop seems to be reasonable for a backup, but the files on the tape are not updated. Simultaneous to the start AND completion entries in the scheduler log are entries in the system event log ID 10009 - DCOM can't find the OLD server name.

I'm stumped and any help would be greatly appreciated.

try recreating a scheduled backup in task scheduler, their may be some reference to the old servername with in this object. Or open dcomcnfg and try to find the offending entry.

I already recreated all of the scheduled jobs to no avail.

I looked through all of the applications in dcomcnfg that I thought would be associated with ntbackup (VSS, RSM, etc.) assuming that what I was looking for was a location pointing to the old server name but found nothing. Am I right to be looking in the location tab?

I believe so. Just throwing this out there, but search your registry for the old servername and replace any of those with the new name. Still researching for ya...
