Good Lord, it's 2006 and I'm still tinkering with NT 4.0!
The truth is I'm looking at a problem for a friend who admins 2 NT4 sp6a Exchange 5.5 servers. There is a major problem regarding backups, ie, he is unable to perform anyway. The two servers are live and 'critical' to their business requirement. Each server is THE exchange server for one of two distinct businesses, they are just co-located, and administered.
The admins had been using ArcserveIT WG 6.61 until some time last year, at which point their backups failed and the backup schedule went into a spin. I heavily suspect the original installation. Anyway, after huffing and puffing over Arcserve trying to get it to work, I decided that it would probably be more efficient to just get an NTBackup backup. At least it would be some sort of a backup.
Unable to get NTBackup to recognise the existence of any DAT, I uninstalled Arcserve from server A. After reboot, NTBackup was running OK and I managed to get an DS/IS backup on tape. However Server B was not so cooperative. I uninstalled ArcserveIT and now I'm getting an startup error in eventlog 'The following device failed to start etc. 4mmdat. I start NTbackup, no DAT. I have uninstalled the 4mm DAT driver, rebooted, reinstalled 4mm DAT driver, rebooted and still no joy.
I would really appreciate any info you may have regarding this. I really can't afford to take any risks with this server, if it goes down, workers go home.
Thanks
