I am trying to load NT 4.0 Terminal Server. When it gets to format the partition it never gets past 0%. The HD is spinning. If I format with 98 everything is fine. I am loading from the install CD. I wanted to try to try an install with floppy boot disks but I can’t find them in the disk. Are there any other solutions or ideas? Thanks in advance.

put the cd in, navigate to the i386 directory, and run 'winnt /ox'. That will generate the boot disks for you to use during setup. ShackDaddy

I can't find the file. I checked all I386 folders. Is it in another dir.? I did a search of the CD for the file. No luck.

The file is winnt.exe in the i386 directory. Run it with the "/ox" switch to recreate the floppies (winnt /ox) - you'll need 3 already formatted.

After you had formatted in Win98, did you delete the partition? Win98 creates FAT32 partitions by default, and NT can see them but doesn't know what to do. In going through the NT setup, make sure you remove any existing partitions, and re-create them in NT, this will ensure they are either FAT16 or you can convert to NTFS.

Hope this helps:cool: - Bill

I deleted all partitions and created new ones, and tried to format them in NTFS. I'll try to create the floppies. Do you think the floppies will make a difference? Thanks again for the help.

Possibly. Has this computer had NT on it before? I'm beginning to wonder about compatibility... - Bill

Yes, It has had NT4 server before.

I tried to load from the floppies. When it get to formatting it just sits on "0%". I am loading NT4 server now and is has formatted fine. I don't want to do a upgrade but I might have to. Any other suggestions?

If it's not too late, kill the NT4 install AFTER the format is complete, then install TSE on the partition created by the NT4 install.

Honestly, I'm clueless as to why you are having this difficulty... - Bill

I thought about that. I'll try it. This is the first time I have had a problem such as this. I am running out of trouble shooting ideas. Thanks for you input.
