We have 20 + NT 4.0 Servers. Recently, we upgraded all our servers to Internet Explorer 5.5. Following this minor change, four of the servers crashed during the reboot, which followed the I.E. 5.5 install. Here is the error:

"OS Loader V4.01
Windows NT could not start becuase the following file is missing or corrupted:
\wtsrv\system32\config\systemhardware profile\last known good menu
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows NT setup using the original setup floppy disk or CD-ROM. Select 'R' at the first screen to start repair."

I.E. 5.5 is the only common component of the four servers that crashed. Any help would be appreciated.

I can tell you this we tried the same thing. You cannot install IE5.5 on Terminal Server. We were able to uninstall.

Have you gone into last known good configuration or vga mode?

If that is the case you may have to fdisk.

JDC,

Thanks for you input. Does Microsoft an official position on IE 5.5 running on Terminal Server 4.0? Have you seen any other technical pronouncements on this issue?
