Our company is beginning to roll out new PC's. The Clipper 5.2 apps which have run just fine in the past on NT Service Pack 3 are running extremely slow on the new (faster) PC's which have NT Service Pack 6 loaded.

With the new PC's, if only one user is logged into the application, the response is very fast (as it has always been). However, as soon as a second user uses the application accessing the data files, data access slows down by a factor of 10 or more. If the other user still has an older PC with NT Service Pack 3, he experiences no slowdown at all. It only affects the users with the new PC's, and only if more than one user is accesing the data files.

The NT Service Pack appears to be the primary difference between the PC configurations. Has anyone experienced similar problems with NT Service Pack 6, or is there some other problem I need to be looking for.

Thanks in advance for any help...

Larry

Larry, we have same problem as you. Our app. was working Ok with NT 4.0 SP5. Now we bought new machines with NT SP6. If you use the app. in this machines speeds falls. I guess is a problem with index files (Ntx) but I don't have any answer to the problem.

Saludos.

Jorge,

We found out that our problem was related to a difference between the NT Service packs that were run on the server versus the distributed user PC's. Our IT people started pushing out new PC's to the end users w/ Service Pack 6 on them which resulted in a major slowdown (the server was still running an older version). Once the server was upgraded to Service Pack 6 as well, the speed came back. Not sure if this is related to different packet sizes used by the two versions or not, but when the server and PC's are both runing Service pack 6, the slowdown problems ceased.

Larry, following your guide we've installed SP6 on server and this solve the problem. Thanks for your help.
