Hi,

I have a question. We have a Windows NT Server which is a domain contoller for our domain. We also have a Windows 2000 Server with Domino on it.
I would like to promote Windows 2000 Server to be a domain controller and eliminate Windows NT server. Also would like to transfer all services from NT Server to Windows 2000 Server.
Any advice will be welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Based on your post I'm assuming that you have only one NT domain controller which would be the PDC.

There is no way for you to make the current stand-alone W2K server a DC in your current domain. You would have to do an in place upgrade of your current NT PDC, then you would then be able to do a DCPROMO on the W2K server to make it a DC as well. However the safest route for you to take would be to build a new NT 4.0 BDC in your environment. demote the current PDC to a BDC, promote the new BDC to a PDC and do an in place upgrade on it.

How large is your environment? Unless it is very small, like 50 users or less, I wouldn't recommend making your Domino server a domain controller.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes I have only one domain controller, the NT Server which is PDC.

We have 25 users in our network. You think is not smart to make Domino server domain controller?
