My install of goes well until the NIC installation, then it BSOD. If I hold off and install the NIC after SP6a everything is fine, why? Is there a work around? Reason is, after I install the PDC, I cant install the BDC, because the BDC needs to see the PDC during install. Problem is the NIC isnt installed until after SP6a! Any assist welcome. Thank You.

There are alot of features which were not in NT4.0 itself, they are add via the Service Packs.

Something your NIC or NIC drive is using must not be installed (availiable) until the Service Pack installs it.

Maybe you could try a different NIC (older style with NT4.0 is happy with, 3C5x9 or something like that) for the initial install then change over to your main NIC later and change the bindings. New Zealand, a great place to visit.

Joe,

Does NT choose the drivers for this card or are you providing the drivers from a disk during install?

If I do a search, it does find a NIC and installs it. Then BSOD. But after SP6a I can use they same driver to install it and it works fine. The reason this is so important to me is Im building a BDC, and since the BDC needs to see the PDC during the build....You can see what my problem is.. Strange huh.

What manufacturer/model is the NIC you are trying to install?

Ah, this is actually an Intel PRO Adapter. The drivers that came with NT will not actually work with any of the newer cards. You are going to have to download the NEW drivers from Intel or Panasonic. The reason it works after SP6a is the Service Pack actually upgrades the driver. This article actually explains your problem.
