I am trying to schedule a weekly back up on Windows 2000 server using the Windows 2000 backup utility.

I am backing the file to an external Iomega drive.( I browse to the a the location/drive and gave the file a name)
I went scheduled the backup to run every day.
But then it comes with an error
"The operation was not performed because the specified media cannot be found."

How can I do this?
Is there a batch file
thanks
sam

I have had issues in the past with backing up directly to external devices... Seems to work for a while then mess up.

what i've taken to doing is backing up to file somewhere on the server. with new installs, i'll create a partition on a separate raid from data specifically for this file backup.

From there, schedule a batch file (simple dos copy) to copy the bkf file to the external device. Never had a problem with it.

Can you browse to your iomega drive thru dos?

Your problem seems to relate to the RSM utility. On Windows 2000 and later, you need to allocate media to free media to use it to backup files. Open Help and Support options and search for RSM (Removable Storage Media).
