How can I Use Microsoft exchange or Internet Mail as a Mail server. I wish to setup a small network with E-Mail using Eudora Light and have been told it is possible with either of these packages but I cannot see how it canbe done with none Microsoft Mail package. I see there are third party applications available for NT which run the SMTP and PoP3 mail server. Does this mean that it is better to use these other applications and if so any recommendations on good packages for a small network of 10 to 20 workstations.
Thanks
i must admit, we use FTGate from Floositek, it seems the best for us. Serves around just under 20 users here in manchester, and 10 others in Birmingham.
We use VPOP3 from PSCS which collects our mail from an ISP pop mailbox, and gives us a pop3 server on our network. It also has an SMTP server. Costs from around $50 for 5 users up to $875 for 5000 users.
If you are looking for Exchange mail then I assume you have NT Server. Try NT Mail (basically an update of the old MS mail. Lots cheaper and easier to maintain than Exchange and the only downer is that you don't get calendar and so on. It really is just a mail server.

Costs therefore are significantly reduced.
If you buy an Apple Mac however, it comes with the server OS and a 500 user mail server for the money...
Get NT mail, the installer pretty much walks you through the set up whether you use dial up, ISDN or leased line.
