Does anyone have any info on how to setup a vpn on winnt server 4.0
I have an nt server and I'm trying to setup it up so that the users can connect to the network by first connecting to the internet and the to the domain.
I'm using an ISDN exclusively for the users that are going to connect, the server is connected to the internet by the ISDN line. I also have dynip client running on the nt server so that I always have the same ip when I'm online. I was able to connect to the server using pcanywhere and the dynip client (I dont have a static ip) and it worked, but I cannot connect to the server when I setup the vpn on a winxp pc. It does not see the server on the internet. Anyone have any Ideas? Any info would be appreciated.

To make your NT server a VPN server you must install the PPTP protocol and RAS services.
PPTP (Point to Point Tunneling Protocol) is another name for VPN.
The NT server treats VPN as a RAS service (so users who connect must be given DIAL-IN permissions)

I have done that already. My question at this point would be, are there any ports that need to be opened on the ISDN line to allow the connection to come through? Because with pcAnywhere you have to open a TCP port and an UDP port. I have those ports open but when I configured the vpn on xp to connect through the internet to the server it fails. Anyone know the ports that have to be opened

PPTP (VPN) uses port 1723 TCP... Although IANA states that PPTP (could) use port 1723 UDP - best to open both.

I have a similar problem as it tell me that the port is not open for communication. How do i go about opening a port for the RAS server on NT4 Server?
