Hi...

my main server is call bp1 which is NT 4.
i install 2000 server in my pc, so now my pc act as server is call mis.
i can read n write from both bp1 n mis server.
in mis i can read n write the bp1 domain (client)
but bp1 domain (client) cannot read or write to mis server.
once i click mis it ask for password, which i tried my mis administrator login password, it still cannot.
i shared my mis c: as MIS_C and delete the default share
but when i restart computer it will change to the default share which is C$.
i tried to map network drive at bp1 domain (client) pc but it asked for password.

how to configure for bp1 domain (client) to access to mis?

thank you for your help?

regards,
acsf

Logging to the bp1 domain using one of the domain users givs you right to access its resources.
but in order to access the MIS server resources, you need to have the right to do so.

1st you make the server a member of the bp1 domain (my computer properties>Network Identification )
2nd you need to permit users from the bp1 domain to access resources on the server (either by adding them to local groups, or by giving them direct permission to shared resources)

Note: the account "Administrator" is not the same on both the bp1 domain and the MIS server. (you can refer to them by "bp1/administrator" and "mis/administrator"

hi. thank you for your help.

1st - i couldn't find Network Identification in bp1 (my computer).

2nd - i created a permission group (called L_MIS) in MIS n this group users is from bp1 domain. i add the L_MIS in permission in server shared drive. at the end it still request for password.

Hi,
Try to find the network identification "Botton" in the MyComputer properties

hi,

i found the network identification in mis server but not in bp1 domain. bp1 domain is win NT4. The mis workgroup is domain. whatelse should i check and do? please advice. tq.

I really didn't understand what you mean by
"The mis workgroup is domain"

You will not find the network identification tab on the NT4.0 server.
Only W2K can change network id, without having to re-install.

* Did you make the mis server a domain controller?
* In the network identification tab of the w2k server, is the server part of a domain, or a workgroup?

i'm sorry... in the network identification tab - member of i choose workgroup n my workgroup is domain.

my mis is not a domain controller just a server. the bp1 is a domain controller.

tq.

I am sorry, I really don't understand

What is the name of your domain?

What is the name of the workgroup

please try to explain "my workgroup is domain" !!!

is the W2k Server member of a domain, what its name, is it your NT40 domain?

i am really really sorry for making u confuse... actually i am very new in network.

What is the name of your domain?
DOMAIN

What is the name of the workgroup?
WORKGROUP

is the W2k Server member of a domain, what its name, is it your NT40 domain?
W2K SERVER IS MEMBER OF A DOMAIN AND IS A STANDALONE SERVER, THE NAME IS "MIS", NT4.0 IS A PRIMARY DOMAIN CONTROLLER AND ITS NAME IS "BP1".

I have only one domain and all pc sit in one domain.

TQ.

you need to join MIS to the bp1 domain to access it from you bp1 domain, or add a local group to the MIS server and put bp1/admmisitrator to the that local group. however, if they are seperate domains, then you need a trust.

Here is what I think you should do

1- in the W2K server, network identificatin tab , make the MIS server member of a workgroup (any workgroup) not a domain (actually this step is only to dis-join the domain)

2- you will need to reboot after these changes.

3- in the server manager in win NT4.0 remove the account of the MIS server from the list of servers of the domain.

4- win W2K server after reboot, change the network id back to a member of a domain (DOMAIN)
you will be prompted for a user/pass that have permission to add the computer to the DOMAIN.
give him the administrator (your nt 4.0 domain administrator) user/pass.

5- after that hopefully the MIS server is a member of the domain DOMAIN.

now you can add members of the domain to the MIS local groups and give them permissions.
