We have an external company as our DNS server but I am wanting to setup an internal DNS server on windows nt 4.0 server. I have it all setup but for the life of me I cannot get it setup to work. The website has a name like and I want to setup an internal intranet with corp.name.org. I am an IS computer programmer not an IT Network Administrator and I am basically in unfamilar territory. Can anyone give me some insight?? (I have read numerous microsoft articles and the whitepapers on NT DNS server but to no avail).

Okay here is hopefully all the information you need...

I am setting up an intranet on a webserver. It has a static IP address. Half of our users are on Citrix server which was easy to setup because they all use the same hosts file so I just added the IP and the name to the file and it works fine for them. The other half of users are logging in on a NT 4.0 Server, we will call it box2. We have an external ISP hosting our DNS server. Currently the box2's TCP/IP protocol and the DHCP are both pointed to the two IP's of the external DNS servers. This is what I was planning on doing, please tell me if I really have to go through all this or is there a better way. I installed the DNS server on box2. I then changed the box2's TCP/IP protocol and the DHCP to point to the internal DNS server. I gave the internal box2 DNS server forwarders to the external DNS servers. Now this seems to work but I am having a problem setting up the box2 internal DNS server to have the corp.name.org go to our internal IP webserver. I first try to setup a reverse lookup for the box2 server 192.168.0.10.in-addr.arpa and then I setup a zone for the name.org (which is the same name as the zone setup at the external DNS servers I believe because lots of extra information like the name servers of where is located and such). Then I created a new domain called corp and setup an a record in the name.org to the ip address. I also setup an a record back to box2 and its ip and a ns record to corp.name.org. I did an nslookup on corp.name.org and it gives me the information but the first lines give an error about not being able to find the box2 server. Well I hope this is enough information and thanks to anyone and everyone that replies to this.
