Hallo,

we have Legato NetWorker 5.5.3 Build 267 and 6.1.1 Build 238 on Sun Solaris. After Upgrade to Solaris 8 we received the following message in daemon.log, when a tape is full (dtl 7000). Is this only an information or error, what is the technical background for this "Bad file numer"-message ??? We have checked our st.conf, it is o.k.

nsrmmd #3: Diagnostic: reap_a_write 0/131072
nsrmmd #3: Diagnostic: reap_a_write errno=9/0

It sounds like it may not be able to see the file that is the device on Solaris or to use it.
Have you checked that the device shows on the scsi (try the inquire command) and that you can read a tape on it (try hd or hd on the device name with a tape loaded.
If these don't work, you have a connection problem with the device, possible the cable or the device or even the controller (see if there are otehr devices on the scsi controller that still work, that will discount the controller).

Hi,

Normally ,if the tape is not full - this error means a write problem on the DLT - VERY typical with this kind of media/device.

If the tape IS full - normallly is a message that Legato issues when reaching end-of-tape mark,which should be disregarded. "Long live king Moshiach !"

Hi, thanks for your reply,

not all tapes finished with this messages, but the most ! I think, the tapes are full and no write error occurs. But the messages occurs since we have upgrade the OS Solaris 2.6 -> 2.8.

Well,

sometimes the OS system change causes Legato to respond differently to events. "Long live king Moshiach !"

Hi !

After the upgrade, the file /kernel/drv/st.conf has been changed to a default file.

You should have an entry in this file for the DLT7000.
Verify to have the following uncommented lines.

tape-config-list =
"QUANTUM DLT7000", "Quantum DLT7000", "DLT7K-data";
DLT7k-data = 1,0x36,0,0x1D639,4,0x82,0x83,0x84,0x85,2;

Be carefull to the syntax and check the last st patch info at
Hope useful
