when I did an nslookup on my server it came back server unknown so I added a pointer to the DNS reverse lookup and it now comes back with the server name. Have I done the right thing? can anyone explain

What you did is probably ok because you are making something work rather then braking something, but it brings up the question about why your server was not there, I'm thinking it should have been. . . is tcp/ip on the network cards on your server configured to use the DNS you were editing?

I am assuming Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 DNS.

Televison will make radio obsolete.

the servers setting

ip 192.168.1.3
sn 255.255.255.0
gw 192.168.1.254

preferred dns 192.168.1.3

and my forwarders are pointing to my isp DNS server but without my reverse lookup pointer the nslookup comes back server unknow

muosman:
open up the dns management console.

right click the dns server

choose properties -> this opens a dialog box

open 'monitoring' thumbnail.....

you can do tests here!!
