Hi all

I've got a windows 2003 server acting as an AD/DNS server with my PC pointing at the server to act as my DNS Server

Whenever I go into NSLOOKUP and lookup an MX record it always seems to add my domain to the end and points back to me.

C:\Documents and Settings\lwalters>nslookup
Default Server: srv-mail.corp.company.com
Address: 172.30.212.170

> set type=mx
> emaildomainIwant.co.uk
Server: srv-mail.corp.company.com
Address: 172.30.212.170

Non-authoritative answer:
emaildomainIwant.co.uk.company.com MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = relay1.company.com
emaildomainIwant.co.uk.company.com MX preference = 20, mail exchanger = relay2.company.com

relay1.company.com internet address = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
relay2.company.com internet address = yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy

How can I get around this and have the mx query resolved?

It even happens on the my server so I think the DNS setup is a little messed up!

Thanks

When you type in a domain to query, end it with a period. The built-in DNS resolver does that automatically, but you have to do it manually with nslookup.

So you should type:
emaildomainIwant.co.uk.

See that period? ^
