I'm using NRU 10.0 to make a Remote connection to a MICS 6.1. I can do a Direct or a Remote connection no problem for backups or prog changes. At times I will have to use operator assist. When the operator does the (feature 9*0) transfer, nothing happens and my modem eventually times out. The INI modem string is set at default and I am using a fastrad (without the firmware upgrade). I suspect that the prob is Nortel download version of NRU but I am not sure. Anybody else run accross this?

Does this happen on multiple sites?
Perhaps the receptionist is putting you on hold first and then pressing feature*0?
Also you must dial using a 500/2500 set connected to your modem and wait for the receptionist to press f*0 and listen for modem before connecting the modem.
Also have you tried dumbing down the baud rate for your connection?
Start at 19200 and work down.
If the baud rate at the site is 19200 your lines may not support this baud rate.
Try dumbing down the RAD to 9600 baud.

I have this problem sometimes. Usually it's me or the other person that's the problem. The timing for hanging up the analog phone is important on operator assisted. Too quick and the modem won't answer. To long and the modem gets confused. I agree with the dialing down the baud rate. That usually makes it connect easier.

Thanks for the replies Guys. I already have Bumped down the baud rate all the way to 1200. The timing factor mentioned might be an issue, because out of a dozen attempts I connected only once using Operator Assist. I'll be more conscious of it. As stated earlier Direct or Remote connections work fine. Any other ideas?

If you have an older Fast RAD you need to upgrade the firmware. I think the if the Mfg date is 2001 or earlier the upgrade is needed. This does not guarantee the fix but will cure most problems.

NARSBARS, I didn't try that. I have the same problem with newer FastRADS. Nortel says the Firmware upgrade allows older FastRADS (1/25/99 and earlier) to answer target lines on PRI in MICS 4.0 or later. BUT who knows.

One more thing to try. Have you used an external modem?
In many cases (don't ask why) an internal modem will fail a connection when an external will work. I have an ancient Hayes 14.4 that never fails.

One other thing on the timing issue make sure when she uses F9*0 that her display reads call connected. I had this problem with one of the people at a remote site they would hang up before the modems had chance to sink.

I have a similar problem only the NRU never dials out to the operator at the site. I gives a pop up with instruction you hit OK and you get dial tone but it never dials out. Any help?

Make sure you have highlighted the line the customer is in your customer database listing before trying to connect, otherwise, it will try going to your top line which may not have a phone number in it.

It is not supposed to dial out when using operater assist. That is what the instructions are telling you...to manually make the call, then hit OK

teh sw doesnt dial - it expects u to dial and then hit/click ok

bkrike, senk1s, you guys read better than I do. I missed the word "operator".

Thanks. I figured out. Now, do you know any reason why the RAD was reprogrammed to not answer when dialed direct. I managed to get in and set it so that I could dial direct, but I am perplexed as to why it was turned off.

The default on a rad was to not answer until the tech programmed it with the correct line number and ring delay. there is nothing quite so frustrating as having the rad answer incoming calls on the main line (rel 6.0 CICS IRAD) when the customer is there.
