Hello all,

Am compartively new to the PC side of the world and have been having problem.

Received the klez32. virus about month ago and have Norton cleansweep. It detected and cleaned virus, etc. That was over a month ago.

My problem now is that I have been getting the following message which is generic in nature and am not sure what it actually means or the method to correct it :

---------------------------------------------
Nprotect has caused an error in kernel32.dll
---------------------------------------------

Just began receiving this about three days ago.

That is all that is displayed. However my system is not functioning correctly, mouse pointer gone, background colors changed, etc. as well as no access to various components. Seems as tho I have another virus or something else has gone south.

I would appreciate any help, as it is a small business computer and it is tying up day to day business.

Thanks so much for the help in advance.

What operating system are you running and what version of Norton Antivirus are you running? You mentioned CleanSweep, but that is a module of Norton SystemWorks that monitors program installations and helps delete them entirely.

From what I read earlier, you needed to run the Klez removal tool, and THEN you needed to reinstall Norton Antivirus. This is, of course, if you were infected with Klez and it bypassed Norton Antivirus. Seems unlikely that this is your problem but might be worth a try.

I would consider checking to see if you are either still infected or if the "cleaning" done by NAV was sufficient enough to be the cause of your problems.

Thank you for the reply. I am using Windows ME and 2002 norton 98/me edition virus package.

My sweep worked using the stated klez removal that you so graciously supplied me and I re-installed the norton package, but am still having problems. All my infected files were posted to the protected area and deleted.

This was approximately one month ago and have not been having problems since, BUT now am starting to get the message i previously stated everytime I try to log onto my pc and does not allow me access to my curser.

Wondering if I should just re-install both ME and then the rest of my software, or would I loose my files, such as Quicken files, etc. OR just re-install Norton again and see what transpires.

Thanks.

Before you go and reinstall the system, yes, I would try to reinstall antivirs first. Unfortunately, if it does continue along that path then a reinstall might be necessary.

Silly though occured to me. Can you get to the Safe Mode easily and without crashing all the time? I haven't used ME in quite a while; I've never really liked it as a personal preference... J.R. Juiliano

Hello Mr. J.

I am not sure whether I CAN get to safe mode, have tried to get just to the start button to bring up menu and have not been able to, so the possibility of getting into safe mode seems rather remote at this point.

Am going to try to re-install Norton this weekend and if not possible, then I will have to do a cold install and start all over, loading both a fresh version of ME, along with all other software packages I need to do business.

Hopefully won't be necessary, BUT the way things are going I am sure this is the ultimate route I will wind up taking.

Thanks so much for the input. I will let you know the outcome.
